When dragging these to the /Library/Printers/ folder and trying to add the printer in System Preferences, you may get a message that the printer drivers need repairing in order to make the printer work. I have uploaded the HP Printer Drivers for the Laserjet 1018-1020-1022 here, which is a much smaller download and cuts out all the stuff you don't need. You can copy these into your /Library/Printers/ folder. Once you've expanded the first PKG file, you'll get another folder with the same file (HewlettPackardPrinterDrivers.pkg), run the same command on this file, and it'll give you all the files you need. Pkgutil -expand PATH-TO-PKG-FILE PATH-TO-EXPAND-TO Open the DMG file and mount it, then go to Terminal and use this command to extract the PKG files: = On Big Sur (M1 or Intel), you can extract the files you need from the HP Printer Drivers 5.1 package from Apple to install the driver for the HP Laserjet 1018-1020-1022 without the need to run the installer. Tip: If you had trouble finding out the name of your printer, do your co-workers a nice favor label with the printer's name right to the printer itself. If you are still unsure, contact ITSS (x8847) and we will help you identify the printer. If you cannot find the label on the printer, try asking a colleague first. Printers names are usually based around where the printer is located, such as your department name or the room number where the printer is, such as "kplz404-lw". Find out the name of the printer you'd like to add, which should be indicated on label affixed to the printer itself. For students looking to print, please follow the instructions for connecting to the Lab Printers. You may notice slight variations if you are running a different version of OS X.
